About Charles Kenahan

Charles Kenahan is a Rhode Island native who has more than thirty-five years experience providing comprehensive wealth management guidance to individuals, multi-generational families and institutions. He specializes in judicious goal setting, risk assessment, strategic and tactical asset allocation, hedging and all aspects of portfolio management.

Career Achievements

He served as Managing Director at Morgan Stanley in Boston, massachusetts from June 1994 to December 2007. He dedicated those thirteen years to serving the needs of his clients and their families with investable assets in excess of $5 million as well as corporations. He twice earned the title of Top Corporate Services Adviser for the Americas and became a Wealth Management Team Leader. At the close of 2007, 100% of his select clients moved with his team to Merrill Lynch where he served as a Managing Director until July 2019. During those twelve years he grew the Team’s Assets Under Management (AUM) to exceed $1 billion. His steadfast loyalty to clients led to managing one of the most prominent Wealth Management Teams in New England. He was instrumental in taking a Private Investor Group to new heights alongside Providence Equity Partners and Newport Global Advisors in the Equity Recapitalization of True Temper Sports between 2009 and 2012. This venture achieved a 3X return with a 2 ½ year holding period. While his office was headquartered in Boston, the successful management of his team attracted clients throughout the U.S.

Board Membership and Philanthropy

Charles is an active member of his community. He served on the Board of Consultants for his alma mater, Portsmouth Abbey School. His unwavering energy and financial expertise lead to his appointment as Capital Campaign Chair, a position he held from 2006 to 2012. Under his leadership, the $50 million dollar campaign was successful in reaching its goal. In addition to his board membership, he was honored by the invitation to be the 2017 Commencement Speaker. His superior presentation skills and ability to connect with people left a memorable impression on the graduating class and their families. 

He has also served on the Boards of SailNewport, the Rhode Island State Police Museum Foundation, Aritaur Communications and continues to serve on the historic Saint Mary’s Church Finance Committee. 

Passion for Yacht Racing

He approaches yacht racing with the same passion as his career. Introduced to the world of sailing by friends, he quickly fell in love with the sense of teamwork and the thrill of sharing a common goal. He is the sole principal of the Mahalo Yacht Racing Team, which has participated in multiple regattas around the world. Notably, his team won the 2015 Swan 42 North American Championship hosted by the New York Yacht Club.

He has the ability to filter through information, make informed decisions in a timely manner and communicate them confidently. His integrity has been critical to sustaining long term relationships with clients, colleagues, teammates and his community.
